How To Make A Good Poster
by: Salvador Daet Jr.

If you are in business and you have new products or promo to introduce, I think one of the best ways to advertise these is through posters. Posters can help you to make people aware of your upcoming products and your services too. Yes, it is also a good tool to advertise your company's services.

Make sure that your poster is coated in UV coating. This is to ensure that your poster won't fall apart when exposed to rain and sun.

Here are some tips and guides to help you make a good poster:

First, your poster must be READABLE, Readability is a measure of how easily the ideas flow from one item to the next; LEGIBLE, if a text is legible, it can be deciphered; WELL ORGANIZED, and SUCCINCT, Studies show that you have only 11 seconds to grab and retain your audience's attention so make the punchline prominent and brief.

If you are confident enough, you think that by yourself you can do it to, then go for it. Having your own personal touch on your poster is good scheme. If you have not tried computer graphics or are just starting out, find someone whose poster you like and ask them what they use. However, most posters are quickly made is by using some kind of computer software. A word processing program plus a few graphics packages e.g. CricketGraph, MacDraw Pro, Aldus Freehand, Adobe Photoshop for IBM or Macintosh are some of important tools.

On the other hand, asking for help is not a bad idea there are many professional poster artists that can help you.  A professional poster artist will ask you about all the items in this presentation. Although they will execute the work, you have the final authority to the quality and content of your poster.

Planning and deciding what will be the main message of your poster very important. Keep it short and sweet. Use the active voice (i.e., avoid "ing" on the ends of verbs) and avoid the verb "to be" whenever possible.

The spacing of your poster is important. Put into consideration that you must lay out the space properly on the paper. Make your poster flexible enough to change the size by adding or omitting elements.

By lay outing your elements crudely is a good method. Before you actually spend time making the final elements of the poster, take pieces of paper that are about the right size and see if you can actually make it all fit. This will save you a lot of time in the long run.

And lastly, eliminate all extraneous material or unnecessary subject on your poster, omitting materials & methods is fine because most people will not read them anyway. Given that the average poster gazer spends less than 10 minutes on your work and you have 11 seconds to trap your subject before they move on.

Creating a good poster is very important, because posters can be the reflection of you and your company’s reputation. A good poster is a combination of time, thought, and energy endowed and the ability to communicate your ideas graphically and orally. Plan your poster carefully and know your audience that’s all it takes to have a good poster.
